What factors influence freight rates?
Freight rates are driven by the balance of supply (available trucks and drivers) and demand (freight volume). Fuel prices, driver wages, regulatory requirements (e.g., hours‑of‑service rules), seasonality, weather and macro‑economic conditions also play significant roles. When demand outpaces capacity, spot and contract rates rise; when capacity is plentiful, rates tend to decline.
