Transformation of the Chinese CV Industry

Firsthand Observations
on the Evolution of CV Demand in China - 2009

ACT Research is pleased to present a review of the China commercial vehicle industry, based on first-hand observations, focusing on its size, participants, and its future positioning as an end market and source of international supply. Should a North America components manufacturer be located in China and if so, should it be to satisfy domestic needs, exports, or for competitive positioning?

In January 2009, more automobiles were sold in China than the U.S.A.; that is a first and cannot be dismissed despite the fact that the U.S. market is experiencing unique economic conditions. Further, the Chinese classes 4-8 commercial vehicle (CV) market was larger on a unit basis than the N.A. CV market in 2007 and 2008. It is easy to extrapolate that the Chinese automobile and CV markets will be number one globally. What are your opinions?

Some of the questions addressed in the report include:

  • How easily can Chinese OEMs enter the N.A. markets?
  • Will Chinese CV demand continue to grow as more infrastructure is put into place?
  • What OEMs and products are likely winners going forward?
  • Are the Chinese manufacturers capable of meeting the quality standards required in Europe and North America?
  • Will China continue to grow exponentially following the current global economic crisis?
