Commercial Vehicle Electrification: To Charge, or Not to Charge

ACT Research is developing a multi-client study, to define a vision of the United States and Canada market potential for electric medium and heavy commercial vehicles stretching into the year 2035.

Advances in electrical technology for vehicle propulsion have occurred at the same time that environmental concerns have increased — as reflected in carbon-restricting regulation.  These have combined to put the commercial vehicle industry on the threshold of a revolution in powertrain technology. Momentum seems to be gaining, with important new announcements coming on a monthly, even a weekly basis.  Electrical vehicles have the potential to become cost-competitive with internal combustion engines for an increasingly wide array of customer applications in the next fifteen to twenty years.

So far personal vehicles have been in the vanguard, with product introductions and sales in some volumes from General Motors, Toyota, Nissan, and most notably Tesla.  However, announcements from companies who either are incumbents, or have aspirations in the commercial vehicle arena — from traditional OEs to traditional suppliers to prospective new entrants — brings the promise of equal excitement into the CV space.

Your company’s ability to respond to these changes rests on well-informed planning.  Anticipating the advances of electrical technology that lie ahead, and developing scenario planning to adapt to those changes, can make the difference between a pro-active strategy and playing catch-up after the fact.  With this in mind, we are proposing to our customers a study of the revolution ahead in our Commercial Vehicle Electrification: To Charge, or Not to Charge.

Project Schedule (dates below are tentative, depending on achieving the requisite subscriber count):
